In 2013, Canadian philanthropist Donald Sobey made the largest individual gift in King’s history in order to establish the Donald R. Sobey Family Scholarships. Donald Sobey’s son, Rob Sobey, made the announcement at King’s to a packed lecture hall and a standing ovation on December 5, 2013. Read the full announcement.

“King’s has championed the study of the liberal arts in Canada for over two centuries…I wanted to make a gift that would have a transformative impact on King’s.”
– Donald R. Sobey

Starting in 2014, the scholarship has funded 15 scholars from across Canada to come and study at King’s. Now as the fifth cohort of Sobey scholars begin the Foundation Year Program (FYP) at King’s, we invite you to look back at the first cohort’s reflection on their first year at King’s.
